Job Context & Major Challenges

Job context

To assist the management in fulfillment of statutory requirements related to  Environment Management

-To initiate, monitor & review Environment Management Systems for minimizing the risks & environmental impacts in line with applicable laws and regulations

Job challenges

-The Statutory Nomrs with respect to Environment Protection is becoming very stringent day by day therefore it is very important and Challenging to comply with this requirement in a given scenario.  In some of the plant sections hazardous chemicals are handled and therefore the risk potential is very high

Key Result Areas/ Accountabilities

Supporting Actions

-Install, monitor and EH& S management systems, programmes and procedures to comply with E H & S policy and targets

-Motivate and guide Line management in implementation of procedures and solutions to reduce E H & S impact of relevant activities by through safe work practices, procedures, materials, new equipment or modification of existing equipment

-Carry out periodic inspection / audits to identify problem areas and review EHS Mgt. System for identifying opportunities for improvement and implement the same

Environment Health & Safety Mgt

-Review and report progress on dealing with issues of EH & S and applicable legal requirements to the Works Head on monthly basis

-Investigate all serious accidents and environmental incidents and report formally to corporate head office and monitor compliance of corrective and preventive actions

-Co-ordinate all the activities for maintenance of ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certification

-Provides techno – legal support and information to ensure compliance with all applicable central as well as state level Environment Legislation

-ETP/STP technical evaluation, identifying/ evaluating agencies for operation and maintenance of ETP/STP

-Educate employees on safe working practices & Environmental concerns to inculcate safe attitude and update on environmental issues


-To guide shop floor for designing the environmental solutions to comply with legal requirements.

-Imparting system awareness trainings to line management


-Carry out Environment observations at frequent ntervals. Advise and assist on the abnormal practices for correction. Establish a process for identifying processes/procedures which are particularly effective to protect Environment

Emergency preparedness

-Prepare and implemented emergency preparedness plan form emergency  response team conduct periodic mock drills

-Compliance of statutory requirements and its effective implementation as per government and regulations body maintained the legal records as applicable

-Monitor the current revision of applicable legal laws. Monitoring legal compliance related to PCBs (CTE/CTO renewal, Haz waste report submission Etc)

Statutory complinaces

-Evaluation & monitoring of consent conditions of plant ( Analysis of drinking water , ETP water , work place monitoring, Soil Sample ,  Noise level monitoring , Lux level monitoring , Stack Monitoring , sludge analysis , ventilation study , Ambient air monitoring ).  Mapping and tracking of environment compliances. Hazardous waste management, disposal coordination. Ensuring on line Submission of Environment Statement of plant. Internal & external environment audit compliance  Make budget proposals for environment compliances. Implementing Corporate EHS programmes and audits. Implementing robust Environment Management Systems like ISO 14001 Implementing kaizens / Management Programs for continual HSE improvement.

-Organise campaigns, competitions, contests and other activities to develop and improve employee morale.
Prepares daily, weekly and monthly activity and other reports as directed

Environment Promotional Activities

-Ensure the environmental monitoring is done as per consent requirements and corporate guidelines.

-Generate MIS for corporate on monthly basis

-Sustainable , Waste to Wealth, Water conversations operations initiatives
