Location:             Hartlepool,North East, GB

Band:                    D – £35,000 – £45,000 per Annum , negotiable on experience

We currently have the opportunity to recruit an experienced Health, Safety and Fire Manager into Hartlepool Mill. This is a pivotal role within the business, existing to ensure compliance & facilitate control and improvement of all aspects of Health & Safety.

The Hartlepool 20 Mill is part of Tata Steel UK Tubes Operations which manufactures 200,000 tons of tubular products for the Construction and Energy markets.

The Role

Playing a pivotal role within our busy 20” Pipe Mill, you will ensure full compliance with all our Health and Safety policies and procedures. This will involve interpreting and embedding new standards, overseeing the HSE aspects of Capital Expenditure Projects, championing best practice at all times and dealing with all Common law claims to ensure prompt resolution, whilst acting as a trusted adviser to the management team.

Other key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

-To ensure compliance with the site Health, Safety & Fire policies and procedures

-To ensure best Health, Safety and Fire practice is complied with

-To assist the Operations Managers in developing and administering the Health and Safety policies and practices

-To act as the site point of contact for all regulatory authorities

-To conduct and co-ordinate Accident Investigations and Reports, following any incidents at the site

-To manage the activities of subordinates to ensure departmental and personal objectives are achieved

-To prepare and present monthly H,S&F reports and statistics for all H&S Management Meetings

-To Co-ordinate the company-wide H&S bulletins to ensure the mills are kept updated with incidents at other sites

-To ensure co-ordination of the annual health surveillance programme for all employees

-To ensure all H&S databases are maintained to the agreed standard

-To co-ordinate auditing programme of Health, Safety and Fire systems

The Candidate

We are looking for a hand on Health and Safety professional with experience within behavioural safety. We are not looking for a systems focused individual who spends a large amount of their time behind a desk, but somebody who enjoys driving Health and Safety at a grass roots level engaging and motivating the workforce continually driving improvements and raising standards in Health and Safety performance.

The ideal candidate may have gained experience within Production / Engineering prior to their Health and Safety career.

To be considered for this opportunity you will hold a NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum (preferably Diploma) and will be able to bring an extensive track record and previous experience within a similar role.

In addition to this you will require the following experience:

-A high proficiency in all Microsoft applications and

-An experience of material management systems in manufacturing will be a requirement, as will a good understanding of quality control

-Proven competence and experience of all aspects of ISO 45001 system

-Qualified to NEBOSH General Certificate level (preferably Diploma level)

-Two years’ experience in a similar H&S role (ideally from a manufacturing environment)

-Certificated auditor for Safety

-Certificated COSHH Assessor

You will need to hold strong organisation and decision making skills with the ability and the experience of leading, managing and motivating others within a pressurised operations environment.

-Self-motivated, able to prioritise and to work to deadlines in a fast paced environment

-Adaptable to change and always looking to implement continuous improvement

-A strong communicator, with highly developed interpersonal skills, able to communicate at all levels of the business with the ability to influence change
