We are currently recruiting an Environmental Engineer to facilitate, support and contribute to the Environment Team’s objective of ensuring that Strip Products UK manufacturing operations
-Meets the requirements of company’s environmental policy
-Complies with permit conditions and relevant environmental legislation and
-Facilities continuous environmental improvement, in a technically robust and cost effective manner.
The position will report to and support the Strip Products UK Environment Manager who leads and is responsible for the compliance of the Hub with current and future statutory obligations. This involves the management and development of environmental strategies across a complex integrated steel making operation and associated activities, which are permitted under relevant EU and UK legislation. Responsibilities principally cover, though are not limited to, working with the manufacturing teams and external parties to ensure the environmental compliance of a complex manufacturing operation with a number of environmental permits, with high level of technical competence required to ensure compliance with statutory obligations. The role incorporates significant amount of data analysis and management therefore skill, capability and eagerness to work with data are essential attributes for the position.
The incumbent of the role must be able to communicate effectively at all levels e.g. good oral, written and presentation skills required; understand the requirements of the ISO 14001 standard and relevant environmental legislation; be able to effectively coordinate and manage compliance programmes, support investment projects and pursue the company’s policy of continuous environmental improvement.
Within the role, you will working with internal stakeholders across the business, contribute to the development and implementation of appropriate environmental procedures and improvement plans to ensure ongoing compliance with the statutory obligations and all other relevant environmental legislation. In addition, support and facilitate the company’s objective of continuous environmental improvement.
Applicants will be educated to degree level in environmental, technical or engineering-related subject and would be expected to obtain the relevant professional/technical qualifications. You will possess a detailed knowledge of appropriate Welsh, UK & EU environmental legislation (including that related to UK EPR, EU ETS, radiation, air quality, waste and effluent management) and the application of it within a manufacturing operation are required.Experience of working in or with manufacturing processes is required and a sound knowledge of iron and steel processes and their environmental effects would be an advantage.
Candidates will be expected to have strong interpersonal / communication and presentation skills (including team/group communication) are key within this role. Proven analytical skills with an ability to apply specific technical knowledge to complex interrelated operations is essential.
